Samujana sits on a hillside above Choeng Mon, on the north-east corner of Koh Samui. You climb a private road, gates open, and the island falls away beneath you. Below is the water. The Villas

There are around thirty villas in the estate, ranging from three bedrooms to eight, and several can be joined for larger groups. The design language is consistent: glass, timber, exposed concrete softened by planting, and infinity pools that read as extensions of the sea rather than additions to a garden.

Villa 6 is the one people photograph. A long horizon pool, a floating dining pavilion, and a view that runs uninterrupted to the water. It works beautifully for a couple who want space, and equally well for a family who want somewhere the children cannot easily wander off.

The larger villas, the six and eight bedroom houses, are where we place executive groups and multi-generational families. Separate wings mean people can gather when they want and disappear when they do not. That balance matters more than square footage.

What we notice, staying here, is the quality of the quiet. The villas are built into the hill, so you rarely see or hear your neighbours. You feel private without feeling remote. The airport is fifteen minutes away, which for anyone arriving tired counts for a great deal.

The Service, and Why It Matters

Each villa comes with staff: a villa manager, housekeeping, and in most cases a chef. This is the part guests underestimate until they experience it.

Breakfast appears when you surface, not on a schedule. The fridge is stocked to your notes before you land. The pool is the temperature you asked for. Nobody hovers. That last point is the hardest to get right, and Samujana gets it right.

The chefs deserve particular mention. Thai cooking here is precise and unhurried, and the kitchens are happy to work to a brief, whether that is a light week or a proper celebration dinner. Who It Suits

Couples who want a view and privacy above all. Families who need room, a safe pool, and staff who understand children. Small executive groups who want to work, dine and decompress under one roof without checking into a resort.

It suits people who value space over spectacle. Samujana does not shout. If you want a large branded resort with a lobby and a lot of movement, this is not that, and we would point you towards a partner like SALA Samui Choengmon Beach Resort or Anantara Lawana, both of which we know well.

Beyond the Gates

Choeng Mon is one of the island's gentler corners. The beach is calm and shallow, good for children, and there are a handful of unfussy local restaurants a short drive down the hill. Most of our guests, though, spend less time out than they expect. The villa does that to you. When they do venture, we tend to arrange it privately. Samujana faces north-east, which shapes the answer. The clearest months, roughly January through April, give you the calm water and long horizons the villas are designed to frame. The green season has its own appeal, quieter and lower, though the sea across the channel can turn moody. Our Honest View

We hold Samujana in high regard, and we are not easily impressed. The architecture is genuinely good rather than merely photogenic. The staff are discreet in the way that takes years to train. And the location, close to the airport yet high above the noise, is close to ideal for the way our guests travel.

If we have a note, it is that the estate is best appreciated by people who intend to use the villa, not just sleep in it.
